In my family there are a couple of half siblings but they aren't really referred to that way - they are just brother and sister.
It is something I never really thought about much until I heard a conversation between Junior and one of his cousins.
Junior: Do you have a sister?
Cousin L: No but I have a half brother.
Junior with a look of complete confusion on his face: How do you have half of a brother?
