This could get ugly

In the household, I am the one least addicted to the tv (possibly because I only get to watch what I want after everyone else has gone to bed).

The rest of them would have it on 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Well maybe not while asleep.

But that is about the only time they want the tv off.

That is why I think it might get pretty ugly in the morning.

I am thinking that our tv might have possibly died.

I don't know, but I am thinking that a black screen and a high pitched whine is not a good thing. Especially since the only way to turn the tv off right now is to unplug it.

We noticed the screen acting funny when Junior was playing a Wii game, and thought it might be the game.

Then after everyone went to bed, I was watching some tv, and the screen went really messy (I don't know what else to call it).

Then the screen went black and the TV started playing its own funeral dirge.

Seriously, the whine almost sounds like bag pipes.

So when Hubby gets up to check the weather (because he works outside alot) he won't be able to see the radar map for the latest forcast.

And when the kids start asking about TV and video games (even though there is a no tv rule until after 3) they may just cry.

sigh

The good thing is that we actually bought the extended warranty.

Because the warranty that came with the TV expired in November.

  1. That would be a SAD day in my house too - we not only watch quite a bit, but I use it for background noise too. I'm glad that you bought the extended warranty!

  2. We started having peiodic times of TV blackout. About one week each month. Like you, I am the least addicted to TV in our house. But when I noticed my 2 year old getting attached to it, I knew it was time for a change. Now a house without the noise of a TV blaring hardly gets noticed here. But it was hard at first.

If you can wait a while before replacing it, do.

  3. Oh my! Maybe this is a good chance to wean yourselves off it for a fortnight or so and see what interesting (and perhaps frightening) things happen. Provided no one is killed or loses their mind in the process, it could be a great experience!

  4. Good luck with that.

Sometimes I there were recovery centers we could check our kids into, similar to the ones available for drug addicts. That way we could get them off TV without having to deal with the withdrawals.

We went no-TV for a long while when my son was younger (I think our TV died too, because I can't imagine that I was brave enough to do that voluntarily). At first, it was ugly... then he got used to it and the theatrics died away.

Even though I usually limit the kids' TV intake, I've had enough of the whining about it when it does go off that I'm thinking about making them go cold turkey again -- over the summer. (Insert evil laugh.)

That said, I hope you can get your TV fixed. It's annoying to have something relatively new just stop working like that... even if you would rather don black and mourn its passing than have it brought back to life. ;)

  5. That would be a sad day here too. I'd be sad, even though I think I SHOULDN'T watch TV, I really enjoy it! I hope you didn't have a revolt on your hands.
